The author, one of the most important in Valencian prose since the end of the 20th century, is a strong link in the generation of Valencian writers: Empar de Lanuza, Carme Miquel, Celia Amorós, Rosa Serrano, Àngels Moreno, Isabel-Clara Simó, Isabel Robles, Anna Montero and Teresa Pasqual.
The landscape of the region of La Marina, Xàbia and Montgó are central elements in her narrative, as is also the case in the work of Maria Ibars and Carmelina Sánchez Cutillas.

Context of feminine creation
Review
As an author, she has one of the strongest and most constant literary careers since the 70s in the Valencian Country. She identifies as a storyteller, creator and narrator. She recovers legends and creates characters linked to a history, a language and a territory, and also to the conviction that women are a fundamental part of history. Xàbia, El Montgó, the region of La Marina, and the women who have told her stories, are a permanent source of inspiration for the author. She writes for children, young people and adults. Among all the awards she has received. the Carmesina Award, in 1991; the Samaruc Prize, in 1995; and the Enric Valor Prize for novels, in 2009 stand out. In 2022 she received the Roís de Corella Prize for her literary career.
Justifications
Biography
For more than thirty years, Pepa Guardiola has not stopped writing, possessed by words, but aware of the work required by the writing profession. Xàbia is her landscape, where she was born and where she lives. Sheltered at the foot of the Montgó mountain, she leaves us with narratives constructed in detail, which go from the vibrant sound to the evocative and precise word. There is a huge sum of stories plotted with certainty, with truth, and a warm and elaborate word that seduces and stimulates, as the great storytellers have been able to do since time immemorial. The authors Maria Ibars and Carmelina Sánchez Cutillas are also linked to La Marina.
She has received constant recognition for her work, most notably the Carmesina Prize, in 1991; the Samaruc Prize, in 1995; the Enric Valor Prize for novels, in 2009. Finally, in 2022, the recognition to all the literary trajectory, with the Prize Roís de Corella.
From stories to novels, from popular tradition to the recovery of memory, she has built and animated a string of characters and spaces: fearless Jews, distressed daughters, neighbouring sisters, ladies of fountains, old wolves, courageous mothers, brave politicians, hermits, precipices, witches, massifs, mountain ranges, bombings and democratic transitions, etc. and that we can read in the more than thirty works that she has published, from the first one in 1999, El llop i la cogullada, to the last La memòria de les ones, in 2017.
Her strong involvement with feminism began in the 1970s with the MDM (Women’s Democratic Movement). She is an active member of the Marina Alta Women's Network. She also collaborates and is an Honorary Member of the Riuraus Vius Association, the aim of which is to preserve riuraus, buildings typical of the architectural heritage of La Marina.
The author, one of the most important in Valencian prose since the end of the 20th century, is a strong link in the generation of Valencian writers who are friends, such as Empar de Lanuza or Carme Miquel, comrades-in-arms and masters of life, such as Celia Amorós, Rosa Serrano, Àngels Moreno, Isabel Clara-Simó, Isabel Robles, Anna Montero and Teresa Pasqual. They make up a group of narrators, essayists and poetesses who go from the Franco dictatorship to democracy, and live the first democratic elections, constituent periods, the great pedagogical renewal in school, and the resumption of a language banned by the dictatorship. Without a doubt, a committed generation.
